Human evidence leads
We start with peer-reviewed human studies and systematic reviews when they address the question, then explain the population, design, outcome, and limits in plain English.
ABOUT // EDITORIAL STANDARD
INNERSTANDIN is rebuilding as a UK-focused public education project about swelling, lymphoedema, lipoedema, evidence literacy, and better professional conversations.
THE MISSION
Swelling can be described differently by a person, a research paper, a public service, and a professional. The words do not always line up, and a familiar term can sound more conclusive than the evidence allows.
Our first audience is adults in the UK looking for careful definitions, source notes, local-only print tools, and preparation for a qualified professional conversation. The public forms do not ask for symptoms or health details.
The public foundation comes before any commercial catalogue. Paid guides, screened reviews, sponsorship, advertising, or membership would need separate standards, clear labelling, and qualified review before they could affect a reader’s decision.
HOW WE WORK
The working method uses PICO-S for question framing and draws on GRADE, PRISMA 2020, and Cochrane methods for evidence reading. It distinguishes peer-reviewed human evidence, systematic reviews, mechanisms or early findings, and UK service context.
We start with peer-reviewed human studies and systematic reviews when they address the question, then explain the population, design, outcome, and limits in plain English.
Lymphoedema and lipoedema are described with UK spelling while international wording differences remain searchable and clearly labelled.
NHS, NICE, and practitioner or service material can help frame a UK conversation. It is not presented as proof of a personal condition or outcome.
Conflicts, funding, review dates, commercial relationships, uncertainty, and competing explanations belong beside the claim.
AUTHORS AND REVIEWERS
Substantial writing will carry an author or editorial contributor, a review date, source links, and a statement of what was checked. A review is a check of evidence and wording, not a promise of a particular outcome.
WHAT WE WILL NOT DO
We will not diagnose from a checklist, prescribe compression or a procedure, hide a commercial relationship, use weight-shaming language, or turn uncertainty into pressure to buy.
START WITH THE CURRENT WORK
The manuscript roadmap and five public research hubs are open now. They are free, educational, and separate from personal care.
